Character Information:
Name: Harold 'Hal' Jordan / Green Lantern 2814
Canon: Green Lantern (2011 movie)
Canon Point: Post-movie
Age: Mid thirties
Reference: Ba-dum-tish

Setting: Present day earth for the most part - and also, of course, space, considering the canon. Things are kind of more or less the same as the Earth we all know and love for the most part, except for a few key differences:

  • Aliens: Very much in existence across the entire universe. As Hal discovers Earth and humanity is very much not alone in this universe, and in fact is actually one of the youngest species to exist thus far. This puts him in friction against some of the other members of the Corps, believing that humans were not worthy to start wielding the power of the Ring.

  • The Ring: The main source of Hal’s abilities as a Green Lantern, where the power of the ring is only limited by his own imagination and of course, willpower. Will, as it is told, is the most powerful and limitless source of energy in the universe, and the ring harnesses that energy into something tangible and wholly fearsome. The Ring also provides an encyclopedic database of the universe and is able to translate any and all written/spoken languages across the universe. However the Ring itself is not infinite; after extensive usage it requires recharging from the lantern it came from, where the power of the lantern itself comes straight from the core that harvests the willpower of every living creature in the universe.

  • Green Lantern Corps: An intergalactic peacekeeping force created by the Guardians of the Universe, tasked with the ever thankless task of keeping the universe safe from any and all forms of danger. As the name suggests every member of the Corps is armed with a ring, where the majority of their abilities stem from. Every Lantern is given a sector of the universe (3600 sectors in total) to patrol and protect to the best of their abilities; Hal himself is assigned to sector 2814 - that is, the sector of the universe where Earth lies.

  • Guardians of the Universe: A race of tiny blue nearly omnipotent and immortal aliens who had given themselves the tireless task of watching over the universe. They are the ones who created the Green Lanterns and gave them the power they wield, and they also created the planet Oa which serves as the home base for the Lanterns. While all powerful and everlasting, they have decided to take a step back to let the Lanterns take charge for the most part, although in the end they still have final say on what to do and not to do. In a way, they serve as the bosses for the Green Lanterns.

  • Parallax: Formerly known as Krona, who was one of the Guardians of the Universe. In a bid to find a way to gain more power, Krona ended up merging with the power of Fear and turned into the entity known as Parallax. He then proceeds to attack Oa in a bid to try and take over the universe with the power of fear, but however was defeated with the power of the Corps and imprisoned by Abin Sur. Many years later, however, Parallax escaped and raged across the galaxy once more, this time catching Abin Sur unguarded and fatally wounding him. This however caused the Corps to be aware of his return and they attempted to take him down, but it would only be due to Hal’s actions then is Parallax destroyed once and for all - for not even the entity of fear can survive being tossed into the sun.

  • Abin Sur: The predecessor of the Ring that Hal now owns. From his bravery to his actions in containing Parallax, he is regarded as one of the best Lanterns in the Corps; and so his passing had been unexpected, with his choice of a successor even more so. Hal had some very big shoes to fill after unintentionally taking over his position, but ultimately proved himself worthy and takes over the sector that he patrols after the events of the movie.

Personality: He’s pretty fly for a white guy. Yeah okay, that joke's been overused by now.

Hal, for all intents and purposes, is a good guy. But while it is a fact that he's good, good doesn't really equate to nice and Hal is a prime example of that. He goofs around. He shirks responsibility when he can. He rarely takes responsibility, if ever, and is almost more or less your stereotypical playboy. In fact, that is the kind of life Hal was perfectly okay with up until the end of his days - that is, of course, up until he was chosen by the ring and became a Green Lantern.

Still, that isn't to say that Hal became an all-round do-gooder overnight (although he does become a superhero overnight). The flaws are still there, and in a way they stand out more than ever because now there's the pressure on him being an intergalactic space cop. If there is one good thing about him though, it’s the fact that Hal has a very strong moral code and an unshakable sense of justice - there are lines he doesn't cross no matter what, and things he will never do regardless of the circumstances. But on that same note, that doesn't mean Hal is one to stick by the rules; he's not exactly what you can call orthodox. Hal is a quick thinker in battle, able to use anything around him to gain an advantage - a very useful ability for him as a Lantern.

More than that though, one of Hal's other big virtues is his strong will, near-fearlessness to danger and the ability to overcome fear rather than fight it head on. Rather than regard it as an unshakable beast like what the other members of the corps had done Hal reminds them of the existence of courage, of how fear is not to be feared but rather to rise above it, and then take charge of what lies beyond that fear. Through that he had gained the respect of the other Lanterns, though it is just the start.

With that said, Hal's days as a Green Lantern are still early compared to the enormous amount of experience his comic counterpart possesses. He doesn’t have the patience or tenacity or anything that the other Hal has, and it shows. Hal here has been noted to be rash (doing things without thinking it through), volatile (getting angry easily when things don’t go his way) and opinionated (sometimes likes to think that the world works around him) – hardly the best qualities of a Lantern, but he is still learning the ropes and figuring out what to do in his new ‘job’, for a lack of a better term.

It can also be noted that Hal is not the best team player. It takes nearly the end of the world for him to start shaping up and trying, and before that he did not mix well with the Corps at all. There had been nothing but friction between him and the members, with neither side really budging nor giving way. Hal is notably stubborn in his ways, especially when he’s decided on something ; once his mind is set almost nothing will change it. He also likes to challenge the impossible, to show that the impossible is always, in the end, not the final hurdle. Considering his track record, it’s been working out pretty well so far.

Credit has to be given to Hal though, because it is a fact that Hal is well-aware of his own screw ups. He once stated himself that he’s screwed at everything except flying, his one true passion. But being aware is one thing, and trying to correct them is another. As said earlier he is one who shirks responsibility and all the things that come with being grown up. It’s only when things get grim then does that change, but for what it’s worth he still continues to try even after the defeat of Parallax.

Hal can also be said as a passionate man for the things that he can come to care about. His passion can be described as intense; where he loves he loves deeply, but the ferocity of his love also terrifies him because he had been hurt so badly when his father died in front of him and that’s why Hal always tries to retreat when things get too deep. He doesn’t want to suffer that same damage again and so distances himself as soon as things start to get too close to him in order to avoid that kind of pain. It’s a habit that sticks, unfortunately, although like most of his other flaws now he’s trying to improve himself in general as a decent human being.

When told about the fact that he’s in the In-Between of everything Hal would not really take it well, since he doesn’t know what lies beyond death or… anything in general. He’ll obviously panic quite a bit and will not believe it at all since he is only human (albeit a human with a super ring), but eventually he’ll calm down and take it in properly. He’s got a magic ring that turned him into a space cop, being in this in-between realm place shouldn’t be a farfetched notion compared to that… right?

Appearance: Ryan Reynolds With the Green Lantern uniform and without it

Abilities: The most obvious one is, of course, the abilities that comes with being a Green Lantern. Pretty much all of his power stems from the ring granted to him as a member of the corps, which is harnessed by the power of will and will alone. Its usage is just about infinite, as its main ability is to create any construct at all so long as the user has a clear image of what it is and has the will to make it happen. The ring also allows the user understand any known language in the universe and more importantly to fly, which is pretty much one of the best things that Hal loves about it. Being a member of the corps also means that Hal has been given an encyplodaic knowledge of the universe after his induction and so knows any basic information about it. However, as stated before, the power of the ring is not eternal, and needs to be recharged every now and then so that its power is still there.

Before being a Lantern though Hal was a test pilot for Ferris Aircraft - possibly the best one there is. His skills in the cockpit is nothing to scoff at, although he has a tendency to do things unconventionally which constantly earns him the ire of others. Even so, it is a fact that he's damn good at what he does, which is why he could remain there for so long until the destiny of a Lantern came to him.

On a final note, he fails spectacularly at hiding his identity.

Inventory: His mobile phone, his wallet, his ring and the clothes on his back (which includes his father's jacket that he wears now). No lantern because he is a loser who is going to have to mooch from others or something.

Suite: With barely any experience to measure up to his comic counterpart, this Hal is much quicker to temper, far more brash and a lot more impulsive in making decisions that should really be thought twice. He's working on that, but it's still a far cry from the legend that his other self is. So to reflect that, I think the Fire Sector might suit him well enough.

Oooookay. So.

Giant turtle.

The whole 'In-Between' of everything was weird enough, but--a giant turtle? Really? Why was it a giant turtle? And actually--were they even sure it was a giant turtle? They did sound really certain, but still. He had to see it for himself to be certain. Up to the sky it was, then.

Hal quickly took a leap and let the ring carry him up, his suit shimmering as he took to the air and started to fly as high as he could. At least one cool thing about being a Lantern was being able to fly like this - not even being in an airplane could compare to this. If Hal had to be honest, this was one of the best things about becoming a Lantern. Not that any of the other members of the Corps would agree, but eh. It wasn't as if they were going to read his thoughts or anything.

Still going higher and higher, Hal twisted around while he continued to ascend, squinting his eyes as he tried to figure out the view from above. Okay so everything did seem kind of circular from here, but he still couldn't see a head or anything. Maybe he needed to go even higher to see it--

SMACK!

Hal had to stop completely when he found himself abruptly colliding onto something hard and solid against his back, and the surprise/shock was enough for him to lose focus for a moment. Hal yelped as he suddenly started to drop in midair, but managed to regain himself after a few moments and winced as he floated in the air, feeling the pain running through his body.

Alright, so that had not been a good idea. And he still didn't know if the giant turtle thing was true or not. This, obviously, was not going to be his day.
Network:
[Good morning turtleland, today have this one guy on your screen wearing a frankly ridiculous looking eyemask thing that fails to properly hide his cheekbones. He's trying his best to look relaxed, but its not working out too well.]

Let me get this straight. We're in some weird 'In-Between' place that happens to be on a giant turtle for some reason. Doesn't anybody find that odd?

[He's just pointing out the facts, okay. Don't judge him.]

Anyway, I kind of need a way out ASAP if there is one. I mean, there has to be one, right? With so many people around I'm sure one of you must have figured a way out of this place.
